Puri
Anyar Kerambitan
Kerambitan
is located 6 km southwest of Tabanan, and is a small
agricultural district with green, fertile rice fields.
The most important village here is also called Kerambitan,
known for its old, beautiful buildings including the
palace of Puri Anyar Kerambitan, traditional dance and
music and also wood- and stone carvings.
The name Kerambitan
is probably derived from the Sanskrit word "karawitan" which
means "art, music and dance". Kerambitan has
its own unique dance and music, best known as "tektekan"
and this orchestra is believed to have
a magical power.
Kerambitan is a former seat of a branch of Tabanan's
royal family, Arya Kenceng. Several old residences do
still exist and also a nicely restored palace from
the 17th century Puri Anyar Kerambitan.
The royal descendants do still inhabit the palace.
Anak Agung Ngurah Oka Silagunadha
or "Pak Oka" is
the late king who preside over the palace. The palace
are now used for sacred traditional dance and musical
performances and hosting royal wedding ceremonies. It
is possible to spend the night in the palaces with request
in advance.
